Turtle Puppet Stages
I decided to keep the 5 puppets at each stage of their creation to take some process pictures.
The Turtle Inspiration
These are the turtles I grew up with in St. Martin, taken a couple Summers ago at my fathers’ house. I suppose they’re happy there because they would often engage in rampant afternoon orgies - complete with spit, groans and humping … lots and lots of humping … - Here are the pictures that started it all -
Here she is without her clay skin - aluminum wire, mesh and foil, steel piping and pre-baked sculpey eyes. And before the paint… Final turn around… [local TURN_Maisie.mov]
…and here’s the result in sand, using the footage bellow, frame by frame
Title dissolve reference
I didn’t like those random swirls I had done that dissolved the title away - So I then decided to match everything else and to use more reference footage to rotoscope over. Here is a still image of the title manipulated by Dave Hale in After Effects for the desired motion. [local title_swirl.mov]
The bat has landed!
This is almost the final look of the poem. I might add a ground plane paper texture that fades into the distance… or not, what do you think? Bats 12.15 from Fay Helfer on Vimeo.
Here’s a lil snippet of what I have sand-rotoscoped of my 3D bat animation so far BATpass 1204 from Fay Helfer on Vimeo.
